Tim Matavž

Football career
Matavž started playing football when he was 6 and his first club was NK Bilje. He joined ND Gorica in 2004. In the 2006/07 season he was playing as a striker for ND Gorica, scoring 11 goals in the Slovenian competition and he scored the only Gorica goal in the first Qualifying round of the UEFA Cup versus Rabotnicki, which Gorica lost by 2 goals to 1.
An FC Groningen player since the 30th of August 2007, when the talented eighteen year old striker signed a contract for a period of 5 years. In June 2007 Matavž was rumoured to be signed by Fiorentina [1]. But in the end it was FC Groningen that secured his contract.[2]
On September 26, 2007 he scored four goals for FC Groningen in KNVB Cup against IJsselmeervogels. He was on loan with FC Emmen until January 2009[3], but returned to Groningen because of injury problems.
On March 13, 2009 Matavž scored his first goal in the Eredivisie in a 2-0 victory over Roda JC.[4]
On February 24, 2010, Matavž extended his contract with FC Groningen until 2012.[5]
